The Nebo Creek fire is expected to be under containment by Monday, said Uinta National Forest Service officials July 6.

Containment means crews have established “a line around the fire” that the fire will not cross, said Lola Bird, Forest Service representative.

Bird said they hope to have the fire under control, meaning the incident manager of the fire is certain the fire will stay within the line, by Tuesday.

The fire, south of Payson on Nebo Mountain, started Monday, July 2, at 4 p.m. when lightning struck, according to a written statement issued by the Forest Service July 4.

The blaze consumed 3,900 acres of forest land, mostly covered by juniper and oak vegetation, Bird said.

Officials said seven crews of firefighters have worked around the clock to contain the fire.
