Ambassador to the United States from Armenia, Arman Kirakossian, will be speaking to students Thursday, March 22, on behalf of the David M. Kennedy Ambassadorial Lecture Series.

Challenges of maintaining political and economic stability in a transitional economy will be the topic of Kirakossian”s speech.

As a former ambassador to Greece, consultant to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia and first deputy foreign minister, Kirakossian will offer students exposure to ideas outside their own sphere, said Rusty Butler, host of the ambassador”s visit.

“Armenia has a rich history and culture that are an interesting part of the world we need to become better acquainted with,” said Butler, assistant vice president of international affairs at Utah Valley State College.

This year Armenia will celebrate its 1,700 anniversary of Christianity and this is an important celebration for Armenians, he said.

Armenia has also been the recipient of LDS humanitarian relief aid after earthquakes in 1989, Butler said.

Kirakossian”s speech is at 11 a.m. in 238 HRCB. All students are welcome to attend.
