Instead of giving a plea, both Michael and Dea Robinson requested their right to council at their arraignment Jan. 11 in South Jordan City court.

The Robinsons, both 28 and from West Jordan were arrested Dec. 22 after pushing past security guards with their six children and entering the closed Jordan River Temple.

The arrest has garnered attention because Michael Robinson later told police that he was trying to get into the temple with his family because he believed he had been crucified and was a resurrected being trying to get to the Celestial Kingdom.

As charges against Michael Robinson were read, he also declined to plea guilty, not guilty or no contest, and requested an attorney. He stated that since the arrest he had lost his job and could not afford a lawyer. The judge appointed attorney Rex Huang to be Robinson’s council.

Robinson was arrested for assault and criminal trespass, a charge that carries jail time.

Dea Robinson was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and infraction, charges that don’t carry jail time. After she declined to plea and then requested a lawyer, Judge Clinton Balmforth informed her that she could not have a court-appointed attorney because her charges carried no jail time.

A new arraignment date was set for Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. at the South Jordan City Courthouse.
