A missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was killed Friday morning, June 9 in Springville after leaving the Missionary Training Center.
Elder Wen Ping Shi left the MTC sometime during the night, said LDS church spokesman Michael Prudy.
Shi was walking up an Interstate 15 on-ramp in Springville when he was struck and killed by a truck, Purdy said.
Shi, who had just entered the MTC on Wednesday, June 7, was from Fujin, China and was in training for his service to the Washington, D.C. North Mission.
Church officials are unaware of Shi’s reason for leaving the MTC.
