Road-kill won’t be the only thing travelers see on the side of the freeway this weekend.

The Utah chapter of the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF) will be providing free punch and cookies for all those traveling between Springville and Price during the Memorial Day weekend.

“Our goal is to reduce accidents during this busy period when so many people are traveling,” said Stephen Rowland, representative for the IOF chapter in Utah.

“We feel if one life if saved, the effort will be well worth it.”

The program is called “Take Five and Stay Alive.”

Rowland said its purpose is to give weary adults and restless children a break from driving and hopefully wake them up a little.

The refreshment rest stop will be located at the Tucker Rest Stop on Highway 6, six miles below Soldier Summit. They will be serving refreshments from May 26-29 around the clock.

“I think it’s a great idea,” said Brent Tingey, a BYU student majoring in engineering. “It will give travelers a chance to eat something and wake up.”

Various IOF chapters throughout the United States and Canada have conducted this same program and have reported very positive results.
