Utah County Police are combining efforts to track down the pellet-gun vandals by offering a $2,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest and conviction.
Provo, Orem and American Fork police are working together and comparing notes to put an end to the drive-by shootings that have damaged windows in more than 15 businesses during the month of May, said Provo Police Captain Keith Teuscher Thursday, May 18.
“Rewards are very helpful,” he said.
In the past, the police have had great success with convicting criminals when a reward is offered.
Although the time frame is unpredictable, police suspect that once word of the reward spreads, sources may come forward with information about suspects.
Police are looking for information about the May 2 incident when vandals started shooting pellets or BBs through business windows in Provo around midnight.
Numerous businesses along Orem State Street were hit the same night.
The incident on Monday, May 15 included hits in American Fork and Provo between 1:30-3:00 a.m.
Until suspects are in custody, the police have no way of knowing whether any of the incidences are related, Teuscher said.
The businesses are still in the process of repairing the damage.
Jim Clinton, owner of Christensen’s Department Stores, said he needs to special order an odd-sized window that was shattered on Monday, May 15.
A total estimate of the damage has not been calculated, but Teuscher said the damage is significant.
