    THEFT

A 23-year-old student’s personal clothing was taken from the men’s locker room in the Richards Building on March 23. The student left his clothing in an unlocked locker while he worked out and it was gone when he returned. The clothing is valued at $50.

The next morning, March 24, two students observed an individual opening lockers in the same locker room. The individual did not take any items out, but peered into the lockers examining their contents. One of these students’ cellular phone was taken from the locker room earlier.

They confronted the individual, but were unable to communicate because it appeared he did not understand English. The individual left the room and drove off in a red Toyota Tercel.

The students dedcribed the suspect as a male Hispanic, sixteen to seventeen years old, 5’8″ tall with a thin build, brown eyes, and bushy hair. He was wearing a blue jacket. The case is still under investigation.

Two students’ laptop computers were taken from Budge Hall in Helaman Halls Tuesday sometime between 7:15 and 10 p.m. One of the computers is a $1,300 Compac Presaro laptop. The other computer is a Samsung laptop worth $1,500. The case is still under investigation.

    THEFT FROM AUTO

A visitor reported Saturday morning March 25 that a camcorder was taken from his car sometime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. He parked his car in Lot 37 near the Smith Field House and went to watch his son’s intramural game. When he returned, he found his $802 Panasonic camcorder taken from his vehicle. The visitor had only purchased the camera four days prior to its disappearance.

    STALKING

A library employee reported a man following her around the Harold B. Lee Library on Friday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m.

The employee said this was not the first time. She said the first incident happened last Wednesday, March 22, when she was shelving books. The suspect followed her around, almost shoulder-to-shoulder, as she moved from shelf to shelf. Her shift ended 30 minutes later and she quickly left the library.

Then, on March 25, she noticed the same man in the library and reported him to her supervisor.

University Police located the individual and confronted him. The suspect said he was a former BYU student.

The officers learned there were several other students who had similar experiences with the man and banned him from campus for 72 hours.

The suspect is described as a 30 to 40 year old male, 5’8 inches tall, with short dark hair and dark trimmed glasses. He is of Asian or Indian ethnicity and slightly balding.

    TRAFFIC OFFENSE

On Wednesday, March 29 at 1:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to Helaman Halls to investigate an explosion outside Budge Hall.

When they arrived, a vehicle drove up and stopped in front of May hall, blasted its horn for 30 seconds, and then started to drive away.

An officer waved the vehicle down and started to walk toward it. The driver put his hands on the wheel and swerved quickly around the officer, almost knocking him over.

Another officer was able to pull the speeding car over. The driver was cited for evading a police officer and failing to stop for a police officer, a third degree felony. The driver will have this offense on his record and could potentially lose his car, and his insurance premiums will be sky-high, said University Police.
