Letter to the editor: Compassion needed

    23

I was appalled by the insensitive article about the tragic passing of Chester Rodgers, which appeared in The Daily Universe on Tuesday. I felt that the author had no sense of compassion or remorse, and was only concerned with whether or not BYU was responsible for the death.

I am sure we were all happy to know that the deceased student had signed a waiver. We will all sleep better at night knowing that BYU has legally protected itself from other “unfortunate accidents.” I feel the author, the intramural administrator and the editor could all have shown more compassion for the unfortunate student and his suffering family, and less fixation on the university’s disclaimers.
