The First Presidency of the LDS Church expressed sympathy to the Kennedy and Bessette families in a letter sent to Senator Edward M. Kennedy last week.

The letter said the nation and the world recognized the families’ loss.

“Over the past 50 years, the Kennedy name has become part of the heart and soul of America, synonomous with the highest level of public service. The unity of your family and your religious faith have been at the heart of your abililty to bear the extraordinary burdens you have faced,” the First Presidency wrote.

The letter also said the First Presidency would keep the families in their prayers.

“With you, we share the conviction that this life and its trials are a fleeting moment in the passage of eternity. May the reality of the ressurection made possible by the Lord Jesus Christ be a source of continuing comfort and peace as you face this loss,” the First Presidency wrote.
