A 16-year-old Orem male is in Provo Juvenile Detention for aggravated assault after detaining his 17-year-old step-brother with a kitchen knife Sunday night.

Orem Police took the boy into custody at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at his residence near 600 North and 800 East after his parents issued a complaint about the incident, Public Safety Lt. Doug Edwards said.

According to the police report, the 16-year-old had been sent to his room late in the evening, but later left his quarters to prepare a sandwich and watch television. Reportedly, the 17-year-old step-brother scolded the boy for doing so, and this didn’t sit well with him.

The 16-year-old went to his room, but returned with a knife. He then held his step-brother captive for approximately 30 minutes, Edwards said.
