    Arrests

Monday morning at about 1:45 a.m., a University Police officer was approached by a Provo resident in the area of the BYU football practice field. The resident indicated he and some other residents had detained a burglary suspect somewhere near Brick Oven. The investigating officer found a group of individuals surrounding a suspect they had caught. The suspect was believed to be breaking into the residents’ automobiles at The Avenues, an off-campus apartment complex near BYU. During the initial contact, a person believed to be an accomplice was seen in the area. Because the event occurred off campus, Provo City Police officers arrested both individuals, and will do the follow-up work.

    Theft

A wallet was removed from a purse sometime Monday between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Abraham O. Smoot Administration Building. An employee in the ASB left her office during a thirty minute time span, and the wallet was gone when the employee returned to her office. The purse had been stored under the employee’s desk.

University Police remind the BYU community to store purses and wallets out of sight, if they are going to be left unattended.

Two bicycles were reported stolen within the past week. The combined value of the stolen bicycle, front tire, rim, and lock is about $550. University Police said bicycle theft is a continuing, on-going headache at BYU.
