Wellness Week will be sponsoring vendors and fitness testing to promote campus health.

On Thursday in the Garden Court, various vendors will be setting up booths to offer advice and answer any questions students might have, said Conrad Todd, manager of physical education facilities.

Todd said that this year BYU tried to bring in vendors covering all aspects of wellness.

“Wellness isn’t just physical,” Todd said. “Wellness includes spiritual, intellectual, financial, social, and emotional wellness too.”

The various vendors that will be at the Garden Court reflect this idea of complete wellness. The Financial Aid Office will be there to offer advice and ideas to students on keeping ahead financially as well as other vendors including Outdoors Unmlimited, the Dietictics Department and VOICE.

Some of the off-campus businesses that will be participating include Gold’s Gym, chiropractic clinics, herbalists, the Red Cross, the Cancer Society, and others.

Dave Benson, a senior in Physical Education from Bountiful, thinks it’s a great idea to try to incorporate all aspects of wellness.

“Sometimes we forget that so many different things go into how we feel,” Benson said. “I think that it’s a good idea that they are trying to help students with each aspect.”

Even though the focus of wellness week is complete wellness, physical wellness is still one of the most popular topics. For this reason there will be fitness testing in 3211 WSC on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The fitness testing is being run by Aaron Hardey, the Wellness Coordinator of BYU.

“The fitness testing is a great way of seeing where you are at physically,” Hardey said.

The fitness testing includes finding percent body fat, cardiovascular strength, overall strength and flexibility.

Fitness testing helps students to better set goals for themselves, Hardy said.

After taking the tests the students can get advice on what they should do to decrease their body fat, lower their heart rate, or increase their strength or flexibility.

Both the fitness testing and the Garden Court activities will be happen on Thursday and are sponsored by BYU for the Wellness Week activities.
