Letter to the Editor: School better represented by Cougar

    44

    Dear Editor:

Helen Adams queries, “If the Lord were given the opportunity to choose between a cougar and a lamb as mascot for BYU, which do you think he would choose?” Jesus said, “… the remnant of Jacob shall be … as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver” (Micah 5:8, 3 Nephi 20:16). Likewise the unconquerable spirit of our university — whose namesake was decreed the “Lion of the Lord” — is better represented by a cougar.
