THEATER — COMEDY: The first Mask Club of the semester — produced by students and performed free of charge in the HFAC’s Nelke Experimental Theatre — is the surreal and goofy “Variations on the Death of Trotsky” by David Ives. Joielle Adams is the director; cast members include Joel R. Wallin and Rachel Parker. Performances are at 1 and 2 p.m. today.
DANCE: The BYU Department of Dance will present its annual World of Dance show tonight through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center. The International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company and the Cougarettes are among the groups scheduled to perform in this perennial favorite. Tickets are $8 general, $6 for BYU students.
LIVE MUSIC — ROCK: Piper Down will play at The Wrapsody Live (formerly The Station), 117 N. University Ave., Provo, tonight at 9. Admission is $3 and a to-be-announced band will perform with them.
THEATER — COMEDY: The Provo Theater Company will present the Tony Award-winning farce “Lend Me a Tenor” every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Oct. 13. The theater is at 105 E. 100 North in Provo; showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $12.50-$15, but you can get $2.50 off by showing your student ID. THEATER — MUSICAL COMEDY: “April Ann,” written by Ruth and Nathan Hale and starring Ruth Hale, will be performed tonight at 7:30 at the Hale Center Theater Orem, 225 W. 400 North. The musical comedy is based on the Hales’ experiences in British Columbia in the 1950s. Tickets are $7. Call 226-8600 for more information. The show will run nightly except Sunday through Oct. 6.
BOOK CLUB — The first meeting of the new Science Fiction/Fantasy reading club will be tonight at 7 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble bookstore at 330 E. University Parkway in Orem. There will be a discussion of “The Sacrifice” by Kathryn Rusch.
