School can create anxiety, fear and perhaps even terror for many students. To alleve these worries the counseling career center will be sponsoring workshops every month on stress and time management, test preparation, test taking and even overcoming procrastination.

Beginning today students can meet in 151A SWKT at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays or 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays for scheduled workshops.

“These workshops are just about for everyone. Classes are primarily for the students, but the general public may also attend if a workshop interests them,” said Anna R. Sidi, secretary for the counseling center.

“The ‘Time Management’ class is the most popular class at the beginning of the semester,” said Vaughn Worthen, assistant clinical professor for the center. “Around midterms ‘Test Taking’ becomes a fairly popular class, but when finals hit, our ‘Overcoming Procrastination’ class really becomes full,” Worthen said.

The classes are all taught by peer-professionals who have experience in the workshops they teach. Classes are offered Monday-Friday to accommodate students and their different schedules.

“People outside of BYU call on the center to provide workshops off-campus in the evenings, on weekends, for ward activities and club organizations,” Worthen said. “Major businesses call on us and we work with them individually to create a workshop that would best serve their needs.”

Worthen said their workshop “Women and Careers” is a popular workshop with the Relief Society and Homemaking crowds and “Financial Management” is requested by most businesses.

Worthen recommends the workshop “Choosing a Career and Major” parts I and II for all freshmen.

“It helps students understand where they are in the career development process and what the next steps are to take in making a solid choice. It also reviews what resources are available on campus,” Worthen said.

These workshops are offered all year long and our open to whoever has the desire to learn.
