President Boyd K. Packer will speak at today’s Devotional in the Marriott Center.

“It is always a very weighty responsibility to speak at BYU, but you gain inspiration from the youth. It comes as an assignment from the First Presidency,” President Packer said.

President Packer was sustained as the acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve on June 5, 1994, and called to be member of Quorum of the Twelve April 9, 1970. Prior to that call, he served as an assistant to the same quorum for eight years.

President Packer also serves on the Church Correlation Committee. In May, President Packer traveled to Mexico on assignment from the First Presidency.

The last Devotional address President Packer gave at BYU was in February 1991.

“We are so blessed to be able to hear from an apostle of the Lord,” said Heidi Rogers, a senior from Boise, Idaho, majoring in home economics education.

President Packer has served as president of the New England Mission and as the supervisor of seminaries and institutes of religion. He was also a member of the Administrative Council of BYU.

During World War II, he was a pilot in the Pacific Theater.

President Packer married the former Donna Smith. They have 10 children.

Earning his doctoral degree in educational administration from BYU, President Packer also studied at Weber College and Utah State University.

The Devotional will be carried live on Channel 11 and rebroadcast Sunday, Oct. 20 at 6 a.m. on Channel 11.
