BYU’s theater group Young Company will be present the children’s classic fairy tale of “Rumpelstilskin” today and Saturday.

Dana Keiter, a graduate student in theatre and film from Park City, Utah, wrote the script for this performance.

“I have always wanted to do ‘Rumpelstilskin’ but I wasn’t ever pleased with it so I decided to write one,” she said.

Keiter finished the play last year. It was then performed at Weber State University.

BYU’s performance of “Rumpelstilskin” will be the second official production of Keiter’s version.

An 8-by-10-foot storybook will become the setting: “We will turn pages for the different scenes,” said Rebecca Hess, a graduate student in theater for young audiences and director of the play.

Young Company will also tour elementary schools in Utah ranging from Nephi to Ogden performing “Rumpelstilskin.”

The cast is made up of seven members. Hess will also play the role of Rumpelstilskin.

Performances will be held March 1 at 7 p.m. and on March 2 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the HFAC Nelke Experimental Theatre. Ticket prices are $3 for children and adults and are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office
