BYU track and field competed in its first outdoor meet of the season at the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University. Both the men and women’s teams had a good showing throughout all the events.
The men’s team took home 12 top-ten finishes, including finishing second in two events. Braydon Bringhurst took second place in the pole vault with a height of 16-07.50, and Dakoda John placed second in the high jump at 7-00.50.
“I went into the weekend really excited about the meet,” John said. “Sam Rockwood did exceptionally well this weekend and it was good for both of us to build off of.”
Freshman Sam Rockwood took fourth place and finished with a height of 6-10.75, a new personal record for Rockwood. John tied his personal record.
For the women, Natalie Stewart finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.85 seconds. Sarah Yingling had a standout weekend, winning the 800 meter race and the 1,500 meter race. Yingling ran a new personal record with a time of 2:09.45 in the 800 meter race. Jessica Hilton also placed third in the 1,500 meter race.
The Cougars return to southern California this weekend for the USC Invitational.
