Northern Marianas slammed by typhoon, faces slow recovery
In this photo provided by Glen Hunter, damage from Super Typhoon Yutu is shown outside Hunter's home in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Thursday Oct. 2. As the powerful storm crossed over the island the walls shook in Hunter's concrete home, a tin roof over the garage blew away and howling winds terrified his cats. Maximum sustained winds of 180 mph (290 kph) were recorded around the eye of the storm, which passed over Tinian and Saipan early Thursday local time, the National Weather Service said. BYU study finds inversion, rainy days have no effect on emotional distress
An individual looks out into the water at Utah Lake. BYU professors found no statistically significant effect of cloudy days on emotional distress, but they did find that sun time plays a role in a person's emotional state. (Jessica Olsen)

BYU students show off snow sculpting skills
Snow sculptures have been popping up across BYU campus as students created structures and works of art out of the recently fallen snow. Many of the creations were found scattered throughout New Heritage Halls, the most recent addition to on-campus housing for freshmen. Some of the sculptures stayed in place for up to a week because of cold temperatures and cloudy weather.

Start of Fall predictions in Utah
The trees on the mountain and campus are slowly beginning to change colors, reminding us that cooler temperatures and layering is around the corner — as if football wasn't enough of a reminder.

Freezing football
Fall is out and it looks like it will be a snowy Senior day at the Lavell Edwards Stadium tomorrow. The cold weather doesn’t change the fundamentals of football, but there’s no doubt that it does have an effect on the game.

'Tis the season to get in shape
Seemingly out of nowhere, students began flocking to grassy patches and sunny ledges on campus. South of campus, herds of students can be found in exercise clothes out for their daily jog. Just weeks ago all of these areas were nearly deserted.
