Opinion: The decision to capitalize Black and not white

August 04, 2020 12:00 AM
Around the U.S. and even around the world, public protests have been happening in response to police brutality. As videos and stories of systemic racism have come to light, companies all over the world are taking steps to create equality in their own environments.

Opinion: Working as a news photographer during COVID-19

July 28, 2020 12:00 AM
One of the best parts of being a news photographer is that I get to cover something different every day. I rarely have to sit in an office, I love covering sports and campus events, and I get to meet new people and tell their stories through photos.

Opinion: When protesting turns to rioting, it's hurting not helping

July 07, 2020 12:00 AM
Before this year I had never seen many protests or really gave much thought to them. In my ignorant, blissful mind, things were peaceful, especially around me. When Black Lives Matters protests around the country started happening following the death of George Floyd, I started thinking a lot about what protests were and what their purpose was.

Opinion: Privilege and prejudice — 'Is it I?'

Opinion: Educate yourself, then act

June 09, 2020 12:00 AM
This past week was full of learning for me. As someone whose job is centered on opinions within the media, I consumed many different perspectives on the prevalent and continuous issue of racism in our society.

Opinion: Defending my decision to propose

June 02, 2020 12:00 AM
I proposed to my boyfriend this week. I read him a poem, got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of my pocket, and held it up to the camera.

Opinion: We need more — not less — sports in our lives

May 19, 2020 12:00 AM
The Washington Post recently published a controversial editorial titled “The pandemic has reminded us: We don’t need more sports in our lives — we need less.” In short, the piece insinuated that while sports are on hold, any sports-related talk shows, articles and documentaries should also take a break. In response to the Post’s op-ed, I would argue that the pandemic has actually reminded us that we do, in fact, need as much sports-related content in our lives as we can get.

Fair Use Week

February 24, 2015 12:00 AM
To the uninitiated, copyright law can seem like a confusing, perhaps overwhelming minefield of potential lawsuits and other problems just waiting to happen. It can be intimidating to see scary FBI warnings before watching a movie on DVD (if anyone still even does that) or to read cryptic copyright notices claiming “All Rights Reserved.” Even for those who deal with copyright issues regularly, the legal landscape can be quite complex and nuanced, making it difficult to predict outcomes in advance for certain unanswered questions.
