The track and field teams returned from the Sun Angel Classic in Arizona, after a great weekend of competition. The women represented with five new personal records, and the men blasted through with a strong showing from their sprinters.

The BYU track and field team competed against tough competition and had a chance to show off its talent this weekend at the USC Trojan Invitational.

Track and field on the collegiate level operates differently than any other sport. BYU's team travels throughout the spring, participating in both indoor and outdoor meets, but what most regular spectators don't know is that track and field athletes are two-sport athletes.

BYU is used to men coming and going on missions. Professors, landlords and girlfriends all watch them leave. Coaches are used to these young men giving up their scholarships and handing in their uniforms for two years to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But for a young woman desiring to serve a mission, the experience is a little different. A mission for women is not an obligation.

This weekend proved lucky for both the men and women's track teams at the University of Washington and the Air Force Academy. The outcomes of BYU's powerhouse athletes were phenomenal and once-in-a-lifetime.
