Emotional support animals a growing surprise in student housing
Like most BYU students, 20-year-old English major Katherine Tew didn’t anticipate having an animal for a roommate. Tew would come home to the sound of restless barking from behind her roommate’s locked door. The roommate would keep her registered emotional support dog in her bedroom daily while she attended classes and work.

BYU students benefit from emotional support animals in their apartments
When it comes to animals helping their owners, people often think of therapy or guide dogs. Behind closed doors, however, there is another category that all animals — not just dogs — can help their owners with: emotional support.

Housing quality doesn’t always live up to price, students say
Editor’s note: The Daily Universe received more than 100 comments on a June 5, 2017 Facebook post asking our readers about issues they have had with off-campus housing. Those comments led, in part, to the development of the BYU Off-Campus Housing Series.

BYU resident assistants gain as much as they contribute
The resident assistant, or RA, position is sometimes overlooked by students seeking a job at BYU, but those who claim this position often find opportunities for growth in more ways than just monetary compensation.

Provo housing scams costing students
Newly married Dillon and Riley Larson were ecstatic after the homeowner of small Provo house that they found online agreed to rent them out the property for the fall and winter. They were shocked when they learned the home was never for rent — and that they had just been scammed out of approximately $900.

The life of an RA in BYU housing
It's summer semester and resident assistants in many Provo apartments finds themselves up to their heads in stress. A loud party has formed in a nearby apartment, residents are calling them every 10 minutes, and a truck has decided to make the grassy quad just outside of the resident assistant’s apartment into a parking lot.

Letter: Fending for yourself
All this talk of 'mind the gap' and 'the homeless period' really have me wondering: just whose responsibility is it to ensure BYU students have someplace to live between terms? In the real world, people are expected to fend for themselves between housing contracts. It stinks that many contracts in Provo fall on the same time schedule. BYUSA President and Vice President Brandon and Jessica 2012 promised an attempt at addressing the issue, but aside from minor reforms I doubt how much they can actually impact the current system. It's problematic to be homeless for two weeks, but when else would complexes clean the carpets and make much needed repairs (hint, hint, Provo landlords). At the very least, BYU Housing should mandate that no contract expires before the end of finals. Who knows if the Provo housing problem will ever disappear, but in the meantime, here are a few ideas for how to 'mind the gap.'

Heritage Halls dorms at BYU have a long history of traditions
As incoming freshman are thrown into adulthood when entering college, they can find comfort in the fact that they are not alone. BYU created Heritage Halls in the effort of helping students to have a smooth transition as they leave high school and enter college.
