The transition from a warm, comfortable bed in Tennessee to a tarp in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains was an unpleasant one for Anne Parkes Armistead. Her life had drastically changed overnight when she was suddenly sent to a wilderness treatment program. Armistead was far from thrilled, and the first night her camp leader sat on top of her to keep her from escaping the program.

British health officials say that drinking any alcohol regularly increases the risk of cancer, in tough new guidelines that could be hard to swallow for a nation where having a pint is a hallowed tradition. In recommendations released on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, Britain’s Chief Medical Officer advised both men and women not to drink any more than 14 units of alcohol, or about six pints of beer a week _ that still carries a low risk of liver disease or cancer. SALT LAKE CITY — Alcohol sales in Utah increased again last year — likely an indication of a diversified population and a thriving tourism sector.
