Photo Story: Provo Art Stroll

Every first Friday of the month, the city of Provo puts on a public art show called the “Art Stroll,” featuring local artists and their work. Artwork is displayed in the interiors of participating businesses along Center Street, where spectators can go inside to view it. All artwork is also for sale to the public.

Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell headlined this year's “BYU Spectacular!' on Oct. 7 and 8. Other performances included BYU’s famous performing arts groups Vocal Point, Noteworthy, the Cougarettes, the Dunk Team, Ballroom Dance Company, Young Ambassadors and the BYU Singers. In addition, selected alumni were recognized and awarded Alumni Achievement Awards for significant professional accomplishments.

Photo Story: New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation kicked off Thursday morning with thousands of incoming first-year students. Orientation is a three-day event, helping new students become familiar with BYU campus and make new friends. The first day of events began with a convocation at the Marriott Center, followed by a lunch, get-to-know-you games, a tour of select campus buildings, an introduction to campus resources, and the 'You are the Y' event on the field by Heritage Halls. Planned for Friday is a devotional at the Marriott Center, another tour of campus buildings and a selection of Friday night events to choose from, including bowling, a scavenger hunt, the women's volleyball game and a movie showing through BYU International Cinema. Saturday night will also include different activities for first-year students, including another women's volleyball game, bowling, dancing and food.

The Tribe, a Utah-based event planning company, sponsored a Pioneer Day carnival at Provo Town Centre Mall on Saturday, July 24. Along with several thrill rides, the carnival had mechanical bull riding, a car show, axe-throwing and to cap the night, a concert with a fireworks show.
