“Thrifting” — shopping for clothes at second-hand clothing stores — has become a popular trend among college students. Savers, Deseret Industries, Plato’s Closet and Lu’s Resale Boutique are some thrift shops around Provo.

BYU students show off their favorite thrifted outfits from different stores

Bobo Choi, a BYU master’s student studying information systems management, said her favorite part about thrifting is that everything she shops for are products that have already been chosen. “So I kind of have a safe zone where I can choose whatever other people selected for me.”

Maria Laura Flores is another BYU student studying cell biology and physiology. Flores said she thrift shops because she realized she can get the same clothes she would at other stores for a cheaper price and the same quality.

Linguistics student Leah Gaush said she normally thrifts at Deseret Industries, Plato’s Closet and any shops she finds while traveling. She also does a lot of online thrifting through people’s Instagram accounts and Facebook Marketplace.
