BYU faces Texas in a three-game series

The Cougars are facing Texas at Disch-Falk Field for a three-game series from April 4-6. BYU is on a six-game losing streak losing four straight at home vs UVU and Kansas. 

On BYU’s roster includes two, star sophomores. Outfielder Luke Anderson leads the team in batting (.320), runs (17), and doubles (6), and third baseman Easton Jones leads the team in home runs (7). Additionally, freshman Kuhio Aloy leads the team in RBIs (21). 

The Cougars have been anticipating this series for a while. Pitcher, Boston Mabeus, remembers going to Austin his freshman year and cannot wait to return.

“That was a really fun series. Probably one of my most memorable series as a player here at BYU,” said Mabeus. “Even when it was at a quarter-capacity to do COVID, it was loud, and it was great. They do it well in Texas and I’m excited to go back.”

What do we need to know about the Longhorns? 

The Longhorns are 18-11 this season and are ranked no. 2 in the conference behind Oklahoma. They lead the all-time series with BYU 6-1. Their head coach, David Pierce, is in his eighth season at Texas with three College World Series appearances. Last season, Texas won the 2023 Big 12 Regular season and hopes to do it again. 

Who to look out for:

Utility Player Jared Thomas leads the Big 12 in hits (47) and total bases (78). Pitcher, Max Grubbs, ranks third in the conference with a 1.87 ERA and a 4-0 record in ten appearances. Also, three Texas batters have 25+ RBI: Peyton Powell, Max Belyeu, and Jalin Flores.

BYU Head Coach Trent Pratt talked at the beginning of the season about how they are going to take it one game at a time. 

“We’re going to go play one pitch at a time, and we know we’re going to leave it all out here. At the end of the day, if we do that, we’ll have a chance to win a lot of games,” said Pratt.
