BYU women’s volleyball drops straight sets in back to back nights

BYU went into Manhattan, Kansas on a five game winning streak which was snapped by Kansas State.

The Wildcats beat the Cougars 3-0 on Thursday night and followed that performance with another 3-0 victory on Friday night.

BYU had one of their worst hitting weeks of the year as they hit .075% on Thursday followed by a .184% effort on Friday.

Kansas St. setter, Izzi Szulczewski, had her way as she tallied 64 assists between both games. Bower for the Cougars showed her dominance as she set her hitters up through out the 2 matches, with 44 assists.

After last weeks win over Iowa St., Coach Olmstead emphasized how important it is to pass well. As the team is able to pass well, it allows the team to attack from all places of the floor. BYU seemed to struggle to pass with much consistency against Kansas St.

“I think it is going to be a challenge for us with new everything, new venue and new city” said Coach Olmstead, “they are playing very well”.

A challenge it was for the Cougars as they could not seem to get in a rhythm that lasted more than a few points.

BYU’s largest lead was 3 points which came in the first set of Friday’s game. They continued to get in a hole at the beginning of each match and they were unable to crawl out of it to get a set back.

Kansas St. showed that the Big 12 is stacked with talent. Their are no days off when you join a conference with high success through out the years.

BYU looks to bounce back as they host Cincinnati at home on Nov. 3, and Nov. 4.

Kansas St. will ride two huge wins over a top 10 team into Kansas to face another top 15 school.
