No. 8 BYU prepares to face Oklahoma in season’s final road test

No. 8 BYU women’s soccer is heading back out to the midwest to face Oklahoma this Monday at John Crain Field.

With just two games left the Cougars are not letting anything stop them from their determination and drive to set themselves up for a good position for the tournament in this new conference. This game against Oklahoma holds a lot for this team but won’t be any different.

“We are playing for a lot right now,” said head coach Jen Rockwood when asked about the upcoming game against Oklahoma. “We are playing for a conference championship…and we are also preparing for the tournament and playing for a seed in the NCAA tournament.”

But BYU is not alone in this fight.

With 14 teams in the conference only 10, will be able to compete in the conference tournament.

After their upset against Texas, 2-0, Oklahoma is only four points away from the cut. The Sooners will do all they can to not make this an easy game for the Cougars. But even faced with a competitor who also has a lot on the line, Rockwood believes that her team has what it takes to win.

“We are playing for more than what Oklahoma is and I think our girls will be more than ready…to go in and expect a win,” said Rockwood. “We expect to win everytime we step on the field so the expectation is there to have a good result. It won’t be easy, we’ll have to be at our very best, and I think we are getting there.”

BYU has proven that this winning mentality and continual improvement gives them the confidence they need to reach their goals.

Watch the Cougars as they face the Sooners on Monday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. MDT on ESPN+.
