Lauren Gustin earns Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention status

The Big 12 released the Preseason All-Conference women’s basketball team, with BYU forward Lauren Gustin earning Honorable Mention status.

Now, you might be asking yourself, how was the leading rebounder in the country last season and BYU’s leading scorer only an honorable mention?

Gustin averaged 16 points and 16 rebounds during the 2022-23 campaign and earned first-team WCC honors for her play. This year as they jump conferences there will be an increase in competition and new players for her to match up against..

Two of the biggest challenges will be 6’6 centers in Taiyanna Jackson and Ayoka Lee. Jackson averaged 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Lee is set to make her return this year after an injury kept her out for all of last season. The three-time first team all Big 12 team selection will be a dominant force again after returning from injury. Both were named to the All-Big 12 team this season.

This season Gustin will have the opportunity to continue her climb up NCAA and BYU record books and be the first of many All-Big 12 Honorees from BYU. Fans should be excited to watch Gustin and this team play against the country’s best all season long.
