BYU's No. 1 women's soccer faces TCU in institution's first Big 12 game

BYU women’s soccer marks Big 12 conference debut for all Cougar athletics

BYU enters a new era as women’s soccer faces not only its first conference game of the season, but BYU’s first Big 12 game across all sports.

This matchup with TCU is a huge milestone for both players and students alike.

ROC board member Caitlyn Davis commented on the excitement she has seen in the student section leading up to this moment saying she had seen “all of the students band together… with the Big 12 competitions coming up.”

“We are so excited that we get to be the first Big 12 game ever,” said women’s soccer’s Kendall Peterson on BYU Sports Nation the morning of game day. “We are just ready for Cougar Nation to show out and show the Big 12 what we’re all about.”

The student section itself knows this to be a momentous occasion and has not ceased to show up.

“Without fail (the ROC) has filled up,” Davis said.

BYU has remained at No. 1 for two straight weeks in the United Coaches poll— another program first.

“Everyone knows there is a lot on the line (because) a lot of people are actually looking at the game and paying attention now,” freshman Lauren Martin said whilst waiting in the front row of the ROC. “It just brings more energy.”

The Cougars (7-0) face TCU (3-3-1) at South Field then hit the road to play Utah State (2-5-1) on Saturday.
