BYU track and field competes at Texas Relays

BYU’s men and women’s track and field teams competed at Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from Thursday to Saturday. This year marks the 95th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The meet is being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the host of the 2023 Division I outdoor championships.

Friday, March 31 – The first event of the day for the Cougars was the women’s 4×100 meter relay. Junior, Adaobi Tabugbo ran first leg, second leg was Marianne Barber, following was Jaslyn Gardner, and the last leg was the Junior from Highlands Ranch, CO, Annalise Hart. The Cougars finished 18th out of 32 with a time of 45.37. Their fastest 4×100 relay time in 2022 was 44.63.

The 4×100 men’s relay team finished 20 out of 36 teams with a time of 40.26. Easton Bianchi, Dallin Draper, Spencer Carlile, and Jared Davis contributed to this time.

Sophomore Danny Bryant was the only Cougar who competed in the men’s shot put. The California native threw a 16.41m, resulting in 11th place. Bryants farthest throw was at the 2022 BYU Cougar Invitational with a throw of 18.81 meters.

The next event was the women’s 100 meter hurdles. Tabugbo ran a 13.52 in this event. Her personal best is a time of 13.46, which occured in 2022 at the USC Trojan Invitational. The Maryland native placed 22nd out of 33 women. For the women’s 100 meter event, Emma Johnson ran a 12.11 (84th) and the international Dolita Shaw ran a 12.16 (89th).

2022 Women’s Javelin National Champion, Ashton Riner threw a 51.87. The senior placed 8th out of 15 javelin throwers. For the men’s javelin, Cameron Bates threw a 76.07, resulting in 5th place.

The Cougars had a more dominating men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams. The women’s started off with Annalise Hart and ended with Sami Oblad as the last leg, with a time of 3:42.69 (18th). The men’s relay team finished 2nd place on the podium with a time of 3:05.29, almost beating their team best of 3:05.18. Josh Taylor, Trey Jackson, Eli Hazlett, and Spencer Carlile ran this impressive time for the Cougars.
