Karl Behling, president of the Utah Storytelling Guild, visited the Provo Pioneer Village on June 10. Behling has been a professional storyteller since 1999 and was the main speaker for the Pioneer Village's Monday Storytelling night.

Akhil Reed Amar, a world-renowned scholar of the U.S. Constitution and Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University, addressed the campus community on Sept. 26.

While Pioneer Day may mean family and fireworks for some, this state-recognized holiday may be more nuanced than local parades show.

Editor's note: This is one of two parts commemorating 150 years since Utah women were the first in any U.S. state to vote in 1870. Pioneering women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made key contributions to suffrage and were also key in establishing BYU.

In 2007, Jack Mommer was at an Iowa junkyard in search of some salvageable car parts when he came across a pile of fabric bundled at the bottom of a dirty van. After further inspection, Mommer immediately recognized that the bundle was actually an historic 45-star flag. Being a flag-history enthusiast, Mommer felt it was his duty to return the 45-star flag to the home the nation's 45th State at Utah's Capitol building.
