The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced on social media on Feb.14 the Church will host an open house for the Salt Lake Temple from April to October 2027.

“A current and comprehensive renovation to strengthen this sacred house of the Lord for future generations is now nearing completion,” President Nelson said.

According to Salt Lake Temple renovation page, the temple has been closed for renovation since December 2019 and is reaching new milestones each month.

“I’m really excited for the temple to reopen,” said Lauren Hyer, a BYU student. “I’ve been back a couple times to see the construction.”

President Nelson said in his announcement that today is another important day for the temple, being 172 years since the groundbreaking ceremony.

“It’s such a historic temple,” BYU student Caroline Daniel said. “It was the temple where my parents got married, so I’m excited to see the inside of it since I was too young before it closed for renovations.”

President Nelson invited all to prepare for the opening of the Salt Lake Temple by learning about and spending time in temples.

“We warmly invite our friends to come and learn about God’s plan for His children and rejoice in the love of Jesus Christ,” he said.

“Details about this event will be shared as April 2027 approaches,” President Nelson said.

According to a Church Newsroom press release, most of Temple Square is now open to visitors.
