Keeping sculpture alive: BYU art students find creativity, community in B66

Students in the BYU Department of Art’s B66 building are keeping the art of sculpting alive.

The B66 building is open both day and night, with "open studio" hours where students come after class to work on their projects.

"I like coming in on the weekends when there's no classes. I can just work all day," Mylee Dockter, a BYU Fine Arts student, said.

B66's calm atmosphere allows artists to get lost in their creative process.

"You just get in the zone and make art," Dockter said.

Dockter is currently working on an alabaster sculpture, a project she has spent 25 hours on thus far. Some of her other projects have taken even longer, she said.

"For my final project paintings, I spent over 40 hours ... like, I stopped counting at 40," Dockter said.

The building also includes a ceramic room where students can spin clay.

Details about upcoming events and art shows can be found on the BYU event calendar.
