Inside the BYU Salt Lake Center

Just up north from Provo campus, the BYU Salt Lake Center offers students a different learning environment.

Trading the mountains for the city skyline, hundreds of students head to the Salt Lake Center to complete classes at the campus in Salt Lake.

The Salt Lake Center is a top choice for many students and teachers because of their flexible schedule, offering classes until about 8 o'clock at night.

BYU student Joseph Clegg says he enjoys coming to class for Salt Lake.

"The travel can be a little fun here and there, you know, going up on the train,” Clegg said. “I'm normally there with friends.”

Offering around 100 classes a semester, students can complete most university core classes here, as well as certain major courses, graduate-level programs and more.

Inside the building, students can take exams at the Salt Lake Center's own testing center, study or work on assignments in the library and computer lab, or one of the several study rooms.

"I like the fourth floor. That's where the ping pong table is, and that's also where the snack room is," David Bolingbroke, a BYU adjunct professor of History said.

With smaller class sizes, students say it's easier to stay engaged and ask questions.

“I feel like the classes are smaller, so you get a little more attention from the professor,” Clegg said.

The setup also gives professors more chances to work closely with students—creating a setting that feels more connected and hands-on than most big lecture halls.

"I think they get a lot more attention from the professor, like a lot more one-on-one feedback,” Bolingbroke said.

For students looking for a change of pace, the Salt Lake Center could be the perfect place to try something new!
