Representing less than one percent of the student body, about 40 to 50 Muslim students attend BYU.

“By study and by faith” is a phrase students hear often at BYU. For many freshmen, that idea begins to take shape in a class called BYU Foundations for Student Success, or UNIV 101.

In May, I traveled to England to interview, film and photograph for a documentary and articles marking Karl G. Maeser and Brigham Young University’s 150th anniversary celebration. During the trip, our group visited numerous historical sites, including the Beatles statues in Liverpool, Alnwick Castle and iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

A nearly sold-out Marriott Center crowd saw the BYU men’s basketball team deliver a statement performance in its Big 12 home opener Wednesday night, rolling past Arizona State 104–76.

One Sunday some time ago, I was browsing through Spotify playlists — gospel and blues from the mid-20th century, mostly. At times I find myself wishing for a little more variety in the religious musical tradition I’ve grown up in. Perhaps it is simply the familiarity of the hymns that have made me take them for granted.

There seemed to be no definite answer. It was more than likely to have happened, but the proof I was looking for was just something I wasn't going to find. I had accepted that. I had come to terms with the idea that this piece was going to be more about my journey than the destination. Then I got the email. “Ha! I just found the answer.”

In front of a smattering of plastic lawn chairs — blue, white and red, most of them — Michael Jullian and Matthew Seabury make themselves comfortable on the Oasis Stage, kicking off their set with the former on guitar and the latter on the electric bass.
