Fans can expect an explosive performance when BYU men’s soccer squares off against the Ogden Outlaws on Wednesday night. In addition to the expected offensive firepower, the game will be played under the patriotic backdrop of the Stadium of Fire celebration. Because both the match and the event start at 8:00 p.m., spectators will enjoy more than the usual on-field fireworks.
“It’s a great environment. We get a fly over about the same time as kickoff,” head coach Chris Watkins said. “It’s a great day to play a game.”
The Cougars (5-5-2) return home to South Field after splitting two matches in California. The team currently sits in 6th place in the Southwest Division of the Premier Development League, but can jump to 4th place with a win. The team has already surpassed its point total from last season, and is looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
After losing three consecutive games, the Outlaws (6-6-2) are looking to get back into playoff contention. Ogden will be looking for a season sweep of BYU after outlasting the Cougars 3-2 on June 9.
“They’ve got a lot of great players from all over the country,” Watkins said. “It’ll be a one goal game, one way or the other, and we hope to be on the right side of it.”
