The Kennedy Center is hosting a lecture on how Tibetan Buddhists see and treat their environment in the HRCB on Wednesday.
Christian Haskett will be giving his lecture, Saving the Mountains, Saving Ourselves: Tibetan Buddhists and their Environmental Outlooks.
Eric Hyer, political science professor and coordinator of Asian studies, said Haskett’s lecture is going to be extremely absorbing.
“I’m very excited on the subject because (Haskett) is addressing an interesting topic not only about religion, but how Tibetan Buddhists view the environment and how they treat it,” Hyer said.
Haskett is a visiting professor of religious studies from Utah State University and this fall he will be a faculty member of Centre College in Kentucky.
Haskett received his BA from Marywood University, a master’s in religion from Columbia University and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He is a scholar of Indian and Tibetan religions and in order to learn Tibetan language and research the Buddhist religion, Haskett lived in Buddhist monasteries in India for four years. His focus was on Indian Buddhism rituals and Tibetan and Sanskrit philology.
Haskett will lecture in 238 HRCB at noon.
