BYU Women’s Golf finished eighth at the Dale McNamara Invitational yesterday in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
The Cougars finished shooting 14-over-par through three rounds. The eighth place finish was BYU’s second best performance so far this season. The tournament was dominated by Tulsa as they finished eight-under followed by South Florida and UTSA in second and third respectively.
The story for BYU was less about how they started and more about how they finished. Round one the Cougars shot 304. That was the fourth-worst score of the round out of 14 teams in the event.
This rough outing early put the Cougars at a tough deficit heading into rounds two and three with much ground to be made up.
In round two BYU improved by 17 strokes to notch a 287 which was the eighth best score in that round.
The third and final round BYU kept their pace and did not slow down, hitting another 287. While that score wasn’t an improvement from the previous round, it was good enough to keep up with the rest of the competition in the tournament.
BYU’s 287 in round two was the eighth best round score. In round three when the Cougars put up the same score, the ability to keep consistent pace despite not improving, was good enough to be tied for the second best score of the round.
Despite not finishing in the top half of the competition, the Cougars certainly dug themselves out of the one they created in round one.
While the team finished eighth, junior Adeline Anderson finished three-under-par. This tied her for the sixth best individual performance of the tournament.
The Cougars are off until October 30th when they head to Florida to compete in the Hurricane Invitational.
