Coach Diljeet Taylor and Aubrey Frentheway of BYU women’s cross country joined Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan on BYU Sports Nation Tuesday morning to preview the season leading up to the Big 12 championship.
“Going into this new conference, it’s more competition…we get more practice with championship racing and I think that will be really good,” Aubrey commented, referring to the shift to a Power 5 conference. “My motto this year has been ‘trust Coach T’.”
The team is scheduled to compete in the Bill Dellinger Invitational and the XC-23 Pre-Nationals before giving their all at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Iowa on October 28th. At the Autumn Classic home meet earlier this month, they claimed eight out of the top 10 spots. Aubrey secured 3rd place with a time of 17:33.6.
When asked about why she loved the sport, Aubrey explained that cross country allows her to take control of her outcomes and constantly push herself to improve. She has won All-American honors every year since the 2020-2021 season.
“Aubrey is my only ever returning three-time All-American,” Coach Taylor mentioned. “The leadership on our team is great. Her and Lexy bring a good amount of guidance for the younger women.” Lexy Halladay-Lowry is another valuable asset to the team, placing fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
BYU Women’s Cross Country is heading to Oregon this Friday to compete in the Bill Dellinger Invitational, where they will face off several teams including No. 10 Oregon and No. 20 Oregon State.
