BYU men's golf takes third in season opener

BYU men’s golf is in full swing as the Cougars took third at the Bearcat Invitational tournament Tuesday in Cincinnati.

BYU scored 281-277-281-849 finishing at 3-under. This final score put them behind Louisville at second and Chattanooga in first, winning the tournament shooting 14-under.

The final score doesn’t tell the full story. While BYU shot an even-par overall score through day one on Monday, that left the Cougars sitting in fifth place through round two. Monday night Cincinnati led the entire tournament with a score of 12-under par, with Chattanooga following close behind in second at 9-under.

Round three didn’t go Cincinnati's way. They posted a total score of 295, while BYU shot 281, the second best score of the round, and Chattoonaga edged out the Cougars posting the best score of the round with a 271.

That third round performance allowed BYU to jump from fifth to make the Bearcat invitational the Cougars first top three finish of the season

In BYU’s first tournament of the season they also achieved two top 10 individual finishes from junior Zac Jones and freshman Peter Kim.

This was Kim’s first collegiate tournament and he finished tied for 5th individually finishing 4-under par.

The other Cougar to post an individual top 10 finish was Zac Jones who posted a final score of 2-under.

The Cougars will tee off next Monday at the WH Tucker Intercollegiate tournament in New Mexico.
