BYU football adds Oregon transfer linebacker Harrison Taggart

Harrison Taggart is coming home.

Utah's top high school linebacker recruit has landed at BYU, transferring to the Cougars following a redshirt campaign at Oregon.

Taggart, a Draper native, racked up 237 tackles and 7.5 sacks over three seasons at Corner Canyon, landing on the Deseret News 6A First Team All-State squad in 2021 and winning two state championships with the Chargers.

Taggart was listed as ESPN's No. 1 ranked outside linebacker in the state of Utah and the No. 5 overall player in the state. Taggart garnered attention from Arizona, USC, Utah, Nebraska and other Power 5 suitors before committing to Oregon. BYU's then-defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki did not offer nor attempt to recruit Taggart to the Cougars.

Taggart redshirted for the 2022 campaign at Oregon and did not appear in a single game, now heading back home to the Wasatch Front to play for BYU in Jay Hill's new-look Big 12 defense.

Taggart is one of 21 total transfers for BYU over the course of the offseason and the second added linebacker transfer. He carries four seasons of eligibility to play for the Cougars.
