The BYU softball team will participate in the 2017 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge The announcement came from Triple Crown Sports on Wednesday.
'We are excited to return to Puerto Vallarta after playing in it in 2015,' BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. 'We are extremely excited to play against the high-level programs that are in the tournament. It will be a great challenge for our first tournament of the year.'
Schools from the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 will all compete. The Cougars will compete against Auburn, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Washington in the first of two sessions of the tournament from February 9-11, 2017. All teams will play each other once.
This will mark the second time BYU has participated in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. In 2015, BYU swept the field in all four games they played.
The Cougars will start their 2017 season off with some great competition. According to the most recent NCAA RPI rankings this season, AU, OU and UW are all in the Top 10. The BYU softball team has a 7-15 overall record against the opponents.
