Cougar softball took on Utah Valley University in a quick five-inning home opener Tuesday night, winning 8-0.
“It was a good win,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We pitched well, we defended well, and we hit well. It was a nice way to start off our home season.”
Cougar offense dominated the game, scoring in each inning. In the bottom of the first, Gordy Bravo got things going with a bunt, sending Madison Merrell home and putting BYU on the scoreboard.
The Cougars added two more in the second inning. Lauren Bell hit her first home run of the season and brought Coco Bond home with her. Libby Sugg led the batting effort with two hits, one of which was her fourteenth home run of the season.
Bravo's sacrifice fly ended the game and sealed the BYU win with the 8-0-run-rule.
The Cougars head to Austin, Texas, for a three-game series on April 1.
