Volleyball back in the Smith Fieldhouse for WCC play

The women's volleyball team, now ranked No. 21, will be playing Loyola Marymount on Halloween night Oct. 31 and Pepperdine on Nov. 2, both in Provo in the comfort of the Smith Fieldhouse.

The Cougars have not lost at home since Nov. 17, 2011, when they fell to Gonzaga. They have won 22 consecutive matches at home and are looking to improve that record to 24 after this weekend.

BYU (17-4, 10-1 WCC) beat Pacific last week on the road but lost a tough match to Saint Mary's, giving away its  undefeated title. However, with only one league loss, BYU still remains at the top of the West Coast Conference.

On Oct. 31 the Cougars will face the Lions of Loyola Marymount (11-9, 6-5 WCC) at 7 p.m. MDT. BYU won the first matchup earlier this season in a long five sets and has never lost to the Lions, holding a 7-0 record.

Second, the Cougars will play Pepperdine (11-8, 5-6 WCC) on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. MDT. BYU won the first matchup against the Waves at Pepperdine in four sets and leads the overall series 15-8.

Although BYU's ranking dropped from No. 19 to No. 21 after its heartbreaking loss, the Cougars are still ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the fourth consecutive week.
