Women's soccer returns home to host Pepperdine and LMU

The No. 25 BYU women's soccer team returns home this week after several weeks on the road to host Pepperdine and LMU on Thursday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 19, respectively.

After losing a close contest at No. 18 Santa Clara, the Cougars look to bounce back against a tough Pepperdine team. Pepperdine is coming off a loss to highly ranked Portland but took twice as many shots as Portland. Pepperdine forward Lynn Williams leads the West Coast Conference in shots, goals, points and points per game.

'Pepperdine is always a good team and presents a tough test,' said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood.

Rockwood emphasized focus on closing out games in this home-stand as the Cougars have had difficulty doing so the last couple of weeks. The Cougars have lost as a result of goals in the last several minutes of a game several times this year.

'We gave up a goal at the end of the first half and the game against Santa Clara. That was tough. We have to work on closing out halves and games,' Rockwood said.

LMU has lost its first two conference games to Gonzaga and Portland. The game versus LMU on Saturday will be the women's soccer Pink Game, supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The games are the only two home games for BYU during the month of October and will be held at South Field in Provo at 7 p.m. on both Thursday and Saturday.
