BYU softball to host Houston this weekend

The BYU softball team returns home to play this weekend in a three-game series against the University of Houston. Friday's night game is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT and Saturday's double-header will be played at 1 p.m. and 3 pm. MDT at Gail Miller Field.

'Coming off of four big wins, everybody is feeling good about their hitting, pitching (and) defense,' Senior outfielder Bailie Hicken said. 'We have a whole week at practice and I think that puts us in a good spot to come out with a couple more wins this weekend.'

The Houston Scarlet Cougars have an impressive 19-9 record this season and should be a tough match-up against BYU. Collectively, BYU has out-hit Houston this season by 29 hits, but will have to work to earn even more hits off of the Houston pitcher Bailey Watts who has a 1.66 ERA this season with 71 strikeouts.

In the past, BYU has only beat Houston once in three games played. This series is non-conference play for BYU, but the Cougars will look to extend their five-game winning streak.

Things are looking up for BYU's pitching staff who is finally looking healthy and consistent on the mound. Both Tori Almond and Hannah Howell should be ready to go to put in some innings of solid work on the mound this series.

For those who cannot make it out to the games at Gail Miller Field, Friday's game will be broadcast live on BYU Radio-Sirius XM 143 and Saturday's games will be broadcast on BYUtv.
