Women's tennis goes on the road to face Oregon, Denver

The BYU women’s tennis team will travel to Oregon for its third and fourth away matches of the season after coming off a defeat against in-state rival Utah.

The Cougars (5–2) will be playing Oregon on Friday and No. 55 Denver on Saturday at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.

'We've worked really hard this week to get ready to go on the road,' BYU coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. 'It's going to be tough, but I think the girls are ready to step it up.'

The last away matches for BYU came on Feb. 22 and 23 in Las Vegas. On that occasion BYU fell to UNLV and defeated Iowa State.

Oregon has started off the season 8–1 with its only loss coming nearly three weeks ago against Akron, and the Ducks haven’t played since then.

The Denver Pioneers are 6–2 on the season and have won five consecutive matches.

BYU freshman Mackenna Maddox expects the Cougars to come out firing this weekend.

“This week we've been really working hard on moving forward and stepping into our shots,' Maddox said. 'I think in Oregon we're really going to focus on coming to the net and hitting big first serves.'

The Cougars and Ducks face off on Friday at 1:00 p.m. PST. BYU then plays Denver Saturday at 2:30 p.m. PST.
