The BYU women’s tennis team plays its first match of 2013 against Weber State at BYU's indoor tennis courts Saturday.
The Cougars are 12–0 all-time against the Wildcats and are hoping to continue that streak and start off the season with a win.
“The girls are really excited to start the season off,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “They all have a really positive attitude entering this match.”
This will begin the Cougars second season in the West Coast Conference. They finished 2012 in sixth place in the WCC with a 3–5 conference record, and an 8–15 record overall.
Junior Desiree Tran, from Lake Elsinore, Calif. enters the match ranked No. 17 in the Mountain Region. The Cougars also welcome two freshmen to the squad, Nicolette Tran and Mackenna Maddox. Nicolette and Desiree are sisters and Maddox is from McKinney, Texas.
This is also the opening match of 2013 for the Wildcats who are looking to improve on a 2–21 season in 2012. The match starts at noon and admission is free.
