Cougars gymnastics travel to Texas Quad meet

The BYU gymnastics team will travel to Denton, Texas, for the Texas Quad meet this Saturday against the Arizona Wildcats and University of Wisconsin.

BYU lost to the Arizona Wildcats last season 196.275-195.525. The Cougars scored well, with a 9.850 on vault by senior Natalie Eyre-Pickard. Fellow BYU senior Krysten Koval scored a 9.825 on her floor routine; however, this score was unable to top the 9.90 floor routine of Rebecca Cardenas of Arizona.

'I want to see us do our routines the way we are capable of doing them,' BYU head coach Brad Cattermole said. 'I want to do our routines like we do in practice.'

Cattermole is convinced everything will fall into place if the gymnasts focus on their routines and do not become distracted while competing. The team had a few individuals fall while on beam who normally do not fall; however, as the team gains experience, these flaws normally work themselves out.

BYU will also compete against the University of Wisconsin on Saturday. The Warhawks won their first meet of the 2013 season with a 184.200 against the University of Wisconsin- Stout and Gustavus Adolphus.

The Cougars will compete Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7:00 p.m. CST. BYUCougars.com will provide scores and updates from the meet.
